Privacy Policy

EngApp · Last updated 6 October 2026

EngApp is an English-learning app for Hebrew speakers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Your age group, not your date of birth. Before any sign-in option is shown, every new user is asked their date of birth on a neutral screen. The date of birth is used only on your device to work out an age group (child, teen or adult) and is never stored or sent to us. Only the age group is stored with the account, and it decides which advertising and privacy protections apply. See Age groups.

Who we are

For any question about this policy or your data, contact engappsupport@gmail.com.

What we collect

DataWhy
Email address and account identifier, via Sign in with Apple or GoogleTo create and secure your account. The email is stored in our authentication provider (Supabase). If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we receive and store Apple’s private relay address instead of your real email. We never see or store your password. We do not take your name from Google or Apple.
Nickname (display name) you choose yourselfShown to you, and to your teacher and classmates if you join a class. If you rank in the top 100 for a month, also shown with your points on the in‑app leaderboard, visible to all users.
Age group (child, teen or adult)Worked out on your device from the date of birth you enter on the age screen, to determine which advertising rules and protections apply. The date of birth itself is never stored or sent to us — only the age group is. See Age groups.
English level, learning progress, words marked learned, review schedule, streak, custom words and foldersTo run the app and pick what to teach you next.
Class membership, join code, teacher/school roleOnly if you join a class or are a teacher.
Push notification token, device platform, languageTo send study reminders. Only if you allow notifications. Not collected at all for a child account — see Age groups.
Subscription status, product purchased, transaction identifier (linked to your account through an internal user identifier, not your name or email)To unlock Premium features. We never receive your card or payment details — those stay with Apple or Google.
Advertising and device information, such as IP address, device details, and — where permitted — advertising identifiersCollected by Google AdMob to show ads to users who are not subscribed. See Advertising.
Crash and error diagnostics: platform, app version, error message, and your internal account identifier (no email or name)To find and fix bugs.

We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, or browsing history.

Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used only when the user chooses to use the speaking practice feature.

Audio is processed temporarily using the speech-recognition service provided by the device's operating system. Depending on the device and operating system, this processing may involve Apple's or Google's speech-recognition services.

We do not store voice recordings on our servers or in Supabase. The recognized text is used only to provide the requested learning feedback and is not intended to be stored permanently.

Advertising

Users without a Premium subscription see ads supplied by Google AdMob. Which ads you see depends on your age:

Google's handling of ad data is described in Google's Privacy & Terms.

Age groups

EngApp can be used by learners of all ages. When you first open the app you are asked your date of birth on a neutral screen (no answer is pre-selected). It is used only on your device to work out one of three age groups — child, teen or adult — and is then discarded. The age group is stored with the account and cannot be changed afterwards, so the protections that apply to an account cannot be removed by re‑answering.

For a child or teen account, and for any account whose age group is not known, the following applies:

If you are a parent or guardian and want to review or delete your child’s data, contact engappsupport@gmail.com and we will act on it. You can also delete the account in the app (Settings → Delete Account).

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data. We share only what these services need to function:

If you join a class, your display name and learning progress are visible to that class's teacher. That is the purpose of a class. If you rank in the top 100 on the monthly leaderboard, your display name and points are visible to all EngApp users for that month.

Your rights

You may request access to your data, correction of it, or deletion of your account and everything in it. Write to engappsupport@gmail.com. You can delete your account yourself in the app (Settings → Delete Account); see Delete Your Account for what is removed and what is kept.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the EU/UK GDPR, the Israeli Protection of Privacy Law, or the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Diagnostic logs are kept only as long as needed to fix the problem they describe.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects you, tell you in the app.
